Basic Motorcycle Rider Course (BRC)
The Basic RiderCourse is now required for a motorcycle endorsement
The fee for the Basic Riders Course is $200. Active Military $180.00. Law Enforcement and paid EMS/Fireman $175.00
Upon successful completion, GCMTI will submit the pass results electronically to the DHSMV records. Upon receiving the results, you will be processed for a motorcycle endorsement. When you go to the Driver's license office to get your endorsement or motorcycle only license, simply present your certificate to the examiner and they will electronically check to see if you have completed the BRC course.
The Beginning Rider Course consists of 15 hours of instruction including approximately 5 hours in the classroom and 10 hours of intense riding on the parking lot range. This course will teach you how to operate a motorcycle safely, and strongly emphasizes the special skills and mental attitude required for dealing with every day riding. Even if you have been riding for a long time, don't be fooled into believing that you will not learn a lot in the Basic Motorcycle Class. Classroom instruction utilizes slides, video tapes, lectures, and a textbook to provide practical knowledge. You will learn about different types of motorcycles, their controls, and how they operate. The instructors, all experienced motorcyclists, will advise you on the proper riding gear to ensure comfort and protection. You will also learn how alcohol and other drugs affect your ability to ride safely.
Gulf Coast Motorcycle Training, Inc. offers courses at two locations. At both locations, the range is a controlled, off-street, pedestrian-free environment. Students use motorcycles provided by the school (on loan from local dealers) to learn and practice safely and correctly the various maneuvers and demanding situations encountered in street riding.
Riders must pass both a written test and a riding skills test in order to complete the course.
The Basic Riders Course (BRC) allows a student to use their own motorcycle or scooter in the course if it meets 2 of the 3 following requirements:
It must be rated from 100cc to 500cc
It must have an unladen weight of 400 pounds or less
It must have seat height of 30" or less.
Prior to class, the motorcycle will be inspected for safety, and the student will be required to produce proof of insurance. REMINDER: Any damage occurring to the motorcycle or scooter used during class, is not the responsibility of Gulf Coast Motorcycle Training Inc, the Florida Rider Training Program or MSF.
Students must provide and wear the following protective gear during the riding session:
DOT approved helmets (loaners are available)
Long, preferable denim pants
Shoes or boots that cover the ankles
Full finger gloves (loaners are available)Due to a limited supply we encourage you to bring your own gloves without holes in them.
Shirt or jacket with long sleeves
Eye protection (sun glasses,prescriptions or face shield) (loaner sun glasses are available)
Sun-block (optional) but recommended especially in the summer time.
Weekday classes are available with a minimum of four (4) students. Contact GCMTI for further information
Once your application, waiver and fee is received, you will be notified of the upcoming class dates. After you select and confirm the date of the class that best fits your schedule, fees are non-refundable. You must attend all class sessions.
If no notice is given before the day of the class or you are late on any day of the class, then the fee will be forfeited
and the full $200 fee will be required again. Remember, if you are not there, someone else could have taken your place.
It is a liability to the school to put you on a motorcycle without the information required. A valid driver license is
required to take this course.
A discounted fee of $180.00 is offered to all active duty military personnel, $175.00 active law enforcement officers,
Corrections Officers. Paid EMS and Paid Firefighters. (Dependents not included)
Important: Classes are filled by a pre-paid advance registration on a first come, first serve basis. After you register, you will be notified by Gulf Coast Motorcycle Training, Inc. to confirm your class date.

Private courses are held during the week. They can be held on a weekend with advance notice. If you want to beat the crowds and receive one on one instruction then private lessons is the way to go.
